Princess Ilissa's idea is an example of how even the most innocent among us can make a difference. The tragedy experienced in this story is typical of real life disasters, and this story tells how a girl with a good heart and a kind and talented mentor made a difference.

From loving and caring thoughts and deeds, such as are found in this story, the wonderful Princess Festival was born.

Many people think, "I can do so little, how can I make a difference?" No one person is capable of giving all the aid needed in a disaster. Yet, if all people work together, "what little each of us can do" will mean so much.

This book encourages us to say, "If I can help, I will help." Princess Ilissa urges us to promise ourselves to give what we can when help is needed.

Princess Ilissa of DaJiang in the Kingdoms of Everley has everything a girl could want.

Princess Ilissa has a mother and a father, a pony, a beautiful castle for her home, and wonderful places to play. She has beautiful clothes to wear and lots of good food to eat.

Gillyflower is a hobbyduke both old and wise. When Ilissa was born, Gillyflower was sent from the magic land of Hobbydew to teach her. Gillyflower is Princess Ilissa's very own hobbyduke. They play games, read stories, and go on long walks.

One day when Gillyflower came to visit, she just sat in her special chair. There was nothing Ilissa could do to make her smile or want to play. Ilissa ask her, "Gilly, why are you so sad?" Gillyflower got up and walked over to the wall map. She pointed out the spot in DaJiang where three rivers meet. She said, "It has been raining for weeks. The three rivers valley is flooding. People living there are losing their homes, and everything they own.

The people have no place to go, and they are afraid. Little girls and boys don't even have enough food to eat or clean water to drink. I can't play with you today, Ilissa. I must go and talk to the king about it."

Princess Ilissa said, "I want to help. Wait here." She ran to her closet and took out many of her clothes, she then went to her toy room and piled toys on top of the clothes in her arms. Giving them all to Gilly, she then tugged her arm toward the kitchens. Once there she began piling sausages, bread, vegetables and other foods on top of the toys, in her pockets, or wherever there was room.

Gillyflower told her, "What you are doing is kind and thoughtful. It will help, but it won't be enough. There are thousands of people who need clothes, food and toys, not just a few. Even if you gave them all of your clothes, all your toys and books, and all the food in your kitchen, it wouldn't be enough."

Princess Ilissa said, "Don't worry, Gillyflower. My daddy is king. He will help."

They then went to the king and he offered them his own box of treasure. Gillyflower thanked him, but shook her head sadly. Even all that the king wanted to give wouldn't help everyone.

Princess Ilissa thought and thought. "Would treasure from all the princesses, kings and queens in all the kingdoms of Everley be enough to help?" she asked. "Yes" answered Gillyflower, "I believe that would be enough, but how will you get all those people to give?"

Princess Ilissa 's eyes sparkled, "Everyone loves a party," she said. I'll invite them to a Princess Festival. It will be the best party in all the land."

The Princess Festival was to be grand. Everyone would be invited. Princesses throughout Everley were to come and bring their treasures. Soon, there would be enough to help all the people in the three rivers flood.

The princesses did bring their treasures and had great fun at the Festival, mostly because they were helping others.

They decided to hold Princess Festivals in their own lands. Each year after that, in every Kingdom of Everley, there was a Princess Festival held for those who needed help.

Everyone in Everley lived happily ever after because of Princess Ilissa's great idea!
